jQuery .html() vs .append()

Lets say I have an empty div:

<div id='myDiv'></div>

Is this:

$('#myDiv').html("<div id='mySecondDiv'></div>");

The same as:

var mySecondDiv=$("<div id='mySecondDiv'></div>");
$('#myDiv').append(mySecondDiv);
